City police have arrested a 22-year-old man for allegedly posting online a bomb hoax.
Local media reports said the man had posted the false threat online on January 14. The arrest was made after detailed investigations revealed the identity of the accused.
According to Asiaone news website, the hoaxer had not mentioned any specific area of the City Hall.
"The police take a serious view against such irresponsible behaviour which creates unnecessary public alarm," police said. Conviction for an offence of a Breach of the Prohibition Against False Threats of Terrorist Acts will attract a fine of up to S$100,000 and imprisonment of up to five years in Singapore.
Singapore has maintained high vigilance after the Jakarta gun and bomb attack which was claimed by Isis affiliates. The city administration has been on guar with reports suggesting that the entire Southeast Asia was becoming a fertile ground for Islamic terror.
On Wednesday Singapore said it had arrested 27 Bangladeshis for alleged involvement in jihadist terror planning.
