Earthquake of magnitude 6.6 rocks Pakistan and Afghanistan, tremors felt in India

Tremors felt across Afghanistan, Pakistan and India after the earthquake struck at 6:28pm SGT.

A powerful earthquake of maginitude 6.6 hit the Pakistan and Afghanistan-Tajikistan border in the Hindukush region on Sunday.

According to the US Geological Survey, the quake struck at at 6:28pm SGT (3:28pm IST), as reported by BBC. The epicentre of the earthquake was 39km from Ashkasham, which is located in the Badakhshan Province in north-eastern Afghanistan.

The tremors were felt across Pakistan and India, along with Afghanistan. According to NDTV, the data from the European Mediterranean Seismological Centre suggest the impact was strongest around a 200km area.

The same report also claims the tremors were felt across the northern part of India, which includes the capital New Delhi, Kashmir and Uttarakhand.
