A former Southeast Asian Games boxing medalist and promising Malaysian national boxer has been killed during clashes between gangs in a Malaysian prison. G. Ramkumar, who won the silver medal in 69kg boxing category in the 2013 SEA Games in Myanmar, was killed in a revenge attack in Sungai Buloh prison in Petaling Jaya, local media reported.
Ramkumar, who had been arrested and kept in the prison over a kidnap case, was stabbed in the back. Local officials have said three inmates have arrested over the death of the 25-year-old, Malaysia Chronicle reported.
The boxer had a fight with his eventual killers on April 8, prison sources said. He had been moved to solitary confinement subsequent to this but was shifted back to the regular cell on Saturday.
"We need to question many more to determine what really took place. The three suspects we hauled up are being held and questioned at the prison premises. More suspects will soon be called up," Sungai Buloh police chief Supt Mohd Rozi Jidin said. More than a dozen inmates had attacked the boxer, reports said.
