Perth Glory CEO Peter Filopoulos has confirmed that Michael Carrick will continue at Manchester United as he has signed a contract extension.
The England international's deal at Old Trafford will expire after the end of this month and there was no news of the Red Devils handing him a new deal. Australian based outfit Perth Glory were looking at the option to secure his services after the midfielder was recommended by his friend Richard Garcia, who is the captain of Glory.
Carrick's move away from United will not happen this summer after Filopoulos revealed the former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder has committed his future to the 20-time English champions after signing a one-year extension.
"It was a long shot opportunity due to Richard Garcia's relationship with Michael," Filopoulos told FourFourTwo, as quoted by Sky Sports.
"Perth was an option for Michael Carrick as he was going through what he was going to do in his career had he not landed a new signature with Manchester United.
"We understand he's now secured an extension with Manchester United so that's off the table. It's certainly was an option to him and his family for lifestyle reasons."
Carrick's future at United was uncertain due to the managerial situation at the club. After the Old Traffford club won the FA Cup, they sacked their manager Louis van Gaal and replaced him with Jose Mourinho.
The Portuguese tactician has handed new deals to young teenage star Marcus Rashford and left-back Cameron Borthwick-Jackson. Carrick will be the third player to commit his future to the Red Devils since Mourinho was announced as United's new manager.
