Blast at Shanghai's Pudong Airport injures three passengers

The Shanghai Airport Authority said the blast happened at 2:20 pm when "suspected homemade explosive material" exploded near the check-in counters.

Suspected homemade bombs exploded near the check-in counters at the Shanghai Pudong International Airport on Sunday afternoon, injuring three passengers.

The Shanghai Airport Authority said the blast happened at 2:20 pm when "suspected homemade explosive material" exploded at the 'C' check-in area at Terminal 2 of the airport.

The three injured people were taken to the hospital immediately and the police closed the area for investigation. Two of them were seriously hurt. However, the airport authority said that flights were not been affected.

According to a report on Sina.com, two luggage items exploded within five seconds of each other.

The report quoted a passenger, who was identified by her surname Xue, saying that while she was checking for her flight to Thailand, she heard a man shouting "No!" and "ah!" shortly before the blast.

A video which has been posted on the website showed a plume of smoke rising from the airport counters and the passengers running to save themselves from the explosion.
