A Singapore court sentenced a beautician to two weeks' jail on Tuesday after she abused a taxi driver and bit him on his forearm.

According to reports, Portuguese Paula Alexandra Aiyos Ribeiro(45) was drunk when the incident happened. She allegedly got involved in a spat with her taxi driver, Lee Chee Wing (56), and bit him on his right forearm at the void deck of Block 646 Yishun Street 61 at about 2.40am on 17 December, 2015.

According to Straits Times, Deputy Public Prosecutor Rimplejit Kaur said that Lee picked up Ribeiro and her husband from a taxi stand at Clarke Quay. The couple wanted to get dropped at Block 646 Yishun Street 61. On reaching the destination the couple got out from the cab without paying the fare. Lee insisted the beautician and her husband to pay the fare, but the couple ignored and kept walking.

After the driver threatened them with police complaint Ribeiro responded with verbal abuse. It was after this incident that Lee lodged the first information report.

However, while waiting at the police station, the couple tried to escape and Lee had to hold on to the beautician's husband's collar to prevent them from leaving. Ribeiro hurled vulgarities at Lee and suddenly held his right arm and bit him. It was only after the police arrived the couple paid the fare.

Acoording to the news website, Ribeiro was apologetic for her behaviour and cried throughout the proceedings. She pleaded the court to give her second chance.

Ribeiro was given a two weeks' jail sentence, however the judge allowed her to start her sentence from 20 October.

In Singapore, the maximum punishment for causing hurt is two years' jail and a fine up to $5,000.
