Tanongsak Saensomboonsuk takes on Son Wan Ho in the Men's singles final of 2016 Denmark Open on 23 October.
The Thai shuttler stormed past Lee Chong Wei-slayer Brice Leverdez in the semi-final on Saturday. Notably, the Frenchman had also defeated fifth seed Chen Chou Tian in his second round clash and had earned the reputation of giant killer.
However, Leverdez was no match for Tanongsak as the 26-year-old clinched the match 21-9, 21-13 in just 32 minutes. The world number 18 will also take confidence from his second round, straight-games win against fifth-seeded Chinese shuttler Tian Houwei ahead of Sunday's big final.
Tanongsak is fresh from his success at the 2016 Thailand Open, which was also his maiden Grand Prix Gold title, earlier this month. He has been rising up the rankings ladder with a string of good performances in the ongoing season and the unseeded shuttler has earned himself a good opportunity to claim his first Superseries title on Sunday.
Tanongsak's opponent Son Wan Ho, who is the only seeded [6] player to have survived the upset spree that has taken Denmark by storm, has been in fine form reaching the final stages of seven tournaments in 2016.
The world number four though has not been able to convert his good starts into titles in the ongoing season. The South Korean shuttler came close to being crowned as champion at home in last month's Korea Open but lost the final match to compatriot Lee Hyun II.
However, the 28-year-old made sure he had his revenge taken against Lee on Saturday in the semi-final of the ongoing tournament.
While the veteran Korean had worked his way into the last-four stages beating the likes of second seed Viktor Axelsen and Wing Ki Vincent, he failed against Son, who was in mood to let go of the good opportunity to take the title after the early exits of top seeds.
Son took only 39 minutes to dispose off Lee 21-14, 21-16 to set up his final against Tanongsak, whom he defeated in the first round of the Singapore Open earlier this year.
Tanongsak though will be raring to give Son a taste of his own medicine on Sunday by avenging his defeat in Singapore.
