Indonesian authorities have launched a massive search operation to find four fishermen who went missing after a boat collision on Sunday in Karawang waters in West Java.
The accident happened when two boats collided with each other in the waters of Karawang Regency, which is flanked by the Java Sea to the north. After initial investigations, officials informed that the mishap happened at around 11 am on Sunday. The missing fishermen were later identified as Rasyidi (35), Andi (17), Sarka (20) and Tomas (30), reported The Jakarta Post.
A massive search operation is being conducted by personnel of the Bandung National Search and Rescue Agency. "A joint search and rescue team is continuing their search effort. So far, the team have rescued three survivors and are looking for another four," said agency spokesperson Joshua Banjarnahor on Monday, according to Antara news agency.
Indonesia has poor standards for waterways safety and often faces boat accidents. On 21 August, ten people were killed and 17 people were grievously injured when a boat carrying 17 passengers sank in rough seas off western Indonesia.
