J Jayalalithaa, the Chief Minister of South Indian state of Tamil Nadu, has become a victim of death hoax. The 68-year-old Indian politician is undergoing treatment at Apollo Hospitals in Chennai, after she suffered a heart attack.
Soon after the news of cardiac arrest broke out, social media flooded with false reports about Jayalalithaa's death.
Meanwhile, the hospital is sharing constant updates about her health on Twitter. The tweets read: "The Hon'ble Chief Minister of Tamilnadu who is undergoing treatment at Apollo Hospitals,Greams Road, suffered a cardiac arrest this evening. She is on extracorporeal membrane heart assist device and is being treated by a team of expert doctors and critical care specialists. Dr Richard Beale from London has also been consulted and he has concurred with the line of treatment by our cardiologists & pulmonologists."
Previously, the free encyclopedia - Wikipedia - was fooled into believing Jayalalithaa's death. There were swift updates to her page on the website, including a date of death. Needless to say, it was soon corrected.
