Overview

Vietnam host Indonesia in 2016 AFF Suzuki Cup semi-final second leg in Hanoi on 7 December. The hosts need nothing less than a win in the second leg as they were defeated 2-1 by the Garudas in Bogor on Saturday in the first leg. The atmosphere at the Pakansari Stadium was too hot to handle for the The Golden Stars, as thousands of fans, in a packed stadium, rallied behind the team even before the first whistle.

Indonesia, who were playing their first big game at home after the Fifa suspension was lifted earlier this year, responded well to the support they received by slotting in an early goal. Defender Hansamu Pranata took the lead for the hosts but Nguyen Van Quyet equalised from the spot after Lee Cong Vinh was taken down inside the box.

However, skipper Boas Solossa, who recovered in time from illness for the clash, did the job by netting the winner in the second half, thereby taking his tournament goal-tally to three, two behind leader Teerasil Dangda.

However, Indonesia know they have an unfinished job in hand on Wednesday and that they cannot afford to relax if they are hoping to reach the final of the biennial tournament after six years. While Solossa and Stefano Lilipaly have been impressive for the visitors up front, the Garudas will be more than happy to have their first-choice centre-backs, Fachrudin Aryanto and Rudolf Basna, who missed the first leg through suspensions.

On the other hand, Vietnam have the firepower to come back from behind on Wednesday. This time, they will have the backing of a sea of supporters in Hanoi. The 2008 winners, will surely press from the word go and get the goals coming. The likes of Cong Vinh and Van Quyet have to be prepared to play the waiting game if Indonesia decide to park the bus.
