Warriors Football Club have reportedly signed Jordan Webb from Tampines Rovers and Hougang United are eyeing Singapore star Khairul Amri as S.League clubs have started making their moves in the transfer market ahead of the 2017 season.
The 28-year-old Canadian forward scored eight goals in 25 appearances in all competitions for the Tampies in the 2016 season, after which the Stags had decided to not extend their contracts with some of their key players due to their reduction in wage budget.
Notably, Webb has been a prominent figure in the league since he joined Hougang United in 2010. In his three-year stint with the club, he scored 33 goals in 77 appearances and scored eight times for Home United, a club he joined in 2013. He had been waiting for Singapore citizenship as well and he was notably part of the Foreign Talent Scheme in 2014 before he joined Young Lions for a two-year period till 2016.
Warriors, who finished seventh last season, are already showing intent to achieve big in the upcoming season and they have already made a big move towards that.
Meanwhile, Hougang United are eyeing Amri, who had a solid run in the ongoing AFF Suzuki Cup campaign despite the Lions exiting the Asean tournament in the group stages. Despite finishing sixth, the Cheetahs had issues with both their frontline and defence. They were winless in their last three outings, a poor run which cost them a spot in the 2017 AFC Cup.
However, Hougang have already signed centre-back Atsushi Shirota from Albirex Niigata, who won a treble last season. Amri's arrival will only earn them the tag of title favourites ahead of the 2017 season. Hougang general manager Matthew Tay confirmed his side's intent saying that they were looking to work around Amri's contract issues with Young Lions.
"It is clear from the Suzuki Cup and his recent performances that Amri still has a lot to offer in terms of goals and experience, which will definitely help our club," Tay said, as quoted by The New Paper.
"We would like to explore the option of signing Amri by discussing with the Football Association of Singapore about his availability as he still has one year left on his contract with them."
