The as-yet-untitled sequel to the smash hit 'Jurassic World' is moving head under the direction of Spanish filmmaker Juan Antonio Bayona. Now, a familiar artist is joining the production of the film and it is none other than maverick Oscar-winning music composer Michael Giacchino.
The Hollywood Reporter (THR) mentions this in an interview it conducted with the 'Rogue One' music composer. "Giacchino took a break to speak with THR between Rogue One and his next geeky gigs, which include Marvel's Spider-Man: Homecoming, War of the Planet of the Apes, the next Jurassic Park sequel and Pixar's The Incredibles 2," revealed THR.
Giacchino had scored last year's 'Jurassic World' under director Colin Trevorrow. His return to compose the music for the fifth Jurassic Park film is not really a surprise considering how well he scored the Steven Spielberg produced fourth Jurassic entry. Giacchino created new musical motifs for a new dinosaur park on Isla Nublar, owned by Simon Masrani, played brilliantly by Indian actor Irrfan Khan.
However, Giacchino also paid homage to the original iconic Jurassic Park musical cues written by John Williams at key points in the film, such as during the original visitor's centre scene. The 'Jurassic Park' themes are as iconic as most of the musical compositions of the great John Williams, be that 'Star Wars,' 'Jaws,' 'Indiana Jones,' 'E.T: The Extra Terrestrial,' 'Superman,' 'Harry Potter,' or 'Tintin.'
In fact working on 'Jurassic World 2' would be the third time Giacchino would be working with material that was originally composed by John Williams. Apart from the two 'Jurassic World' movies, Giacchino recently composed the music for the Gareth Edwards movie 'Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.' Also Giacchino becomes the second composer to work on more than one 'Jurassic Park' film. John Williams scored 'Jurassic Park' and 'The Lost World: Jurassic Park,' Don Davis ('The Matrix') scored 'Jurassic Park 3.'
Looking at his resume, it seems Giacchino is the busiest composer in Hollywood at the moment. Some of his recent movie compositions include 'Zootopia,' 'Star Trek Beyond,' 'Doctor Strange' and upcoming high profile releases like 'Spider-Man: Homecoming,' 'War for the Planet of the Apes' and 'The Incredibles 2.'
While nothing much is known about the plot for the fifth 'Jurassic Park' film, yet, Colin Trevorrow, who is writing and producing the film, revealed that this one will deal with man's relationship with animals. Bayona also revealed quite recently, that the film will have a political subtext.
"I think there's a lot of that in the new 'Jurassic.' I think there's a lot of possessiveness towards our creations. I think it's very interesting where the new movie is heading. It's so different from the other films, it talks a lot about the moment we live in right now. It's darker... but at the same time it's going to be a lot of fun," Bayona told Comingsoon.net in an exclusive interview.
Bayona also revealed to Birth.Movies.Death that there will be new dinosaurs in the film. B.D. Wong who played the Victor Frankenstein like character Dr. Henry Wu in 'Park' and 'World,' and was responsible for creating the dangerous hybrid, the Indominus Rex, is expected to return for this film. Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard will reprise their respective roles from' Jurassic World' and new additions include, as of now, 'Paper Towns' actor Justice Smith. Veteran British actor Toby Jones and 'Life of Pi' actor Rafe Spall have also joined the cast in undisclosed roles.
'Jurassic World 2' is scheduled to open on 22 June 2018 in the United States.
