Numerous reports on Google Support forums and Reddit are claiming that some Nexus 6P phones are shutting down unexpectedly even with enough battery charge (around 10% to 60%) remaining, after installing the Android 7.0 Nougat update.
Although some users are linking the root cause of the problem to Android 7.0, it is ascertained that the issue persists even after restoring or rolling back to Android 6.0 Marshmallow on the affected devices. Consequently, it is deemed that there could be an undisclosed hardware problem with the handset that seems to be worsened with the Android 7.0 update.
Furthermore, some reports are now claiming that those who got their batteries replaced on the affected Nexus 6P devices have been able to alleviate the problem considerably.
With Google assigning a low priority for the battery problem in its bug tracker list, the arrival of a software fix looks unlikely in the near future. Moreover, Huawei has denied any involvement of hardware defects with the phone against all claims of in-warranty service from the affected users, while blaming Google's Nougat update as the culprit.
Reports also point out that the battery problem with Nexus 6P is more pronounced in extreme cold climates. However, there is no information on how the weather conditions and ambient temperature could influence the battery functionality of the smartphone.
