The Quadrantid meteor shower is expected to hit its peak on 3 January. The shower got its name because they appear to radiate from the location of an obsolete constellation known as Quadrans Muralis.

Jane Houston Jones, from NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in California, said the shower peak lasts just for few hours. She said: "The Quadrantids are associated with an asteroid -- 2003 EH1. It is thought to be the nucleus fragment from a comet break-up in the 1490s. It was classified as an asteroid when it was discovered by a near-Earth asteroid telescopic survey in 2003."

According to Spacedex, astronomy enthusiasts in Singapore have the best chance of seeing the Quadrantid meteor shower on 4 January between 9:00pm - 04:30am (SGT).
