Google has just posted the January security fixes via latest Android Nougat over-the-air (OTA) update and system image files for its Pixel phones as well as a handful of Nexus devices including Nexus 6P, 5X, 9 and Nexus Player. Although the OTAs are likely to hit your Nexus device in the next few days, the OTA files are already available for use via manual download links on Google's developer portal.
Here is the complete list of Pixel and Nexus devices along with their corresponding build numbers for the latest Nougat update:
- Pixel and Pixel XL: NMF26U and NMF26V
- Pixel C: N4F26I
- Nexus 6P: N4F26I and N4F26J
- Nexus 5X: N4F26I
- Nexus 9: N4F26M
- Nexus Player: NMF26R
Interested users may go ahead and install the latest OTA files on top of their existing Nougat builds or perform a clean install with the latest system image files on top of an unlocked bootloader. Unlike the OTA files which require a stock firmware for installation, the full system image files can be installed on any firmware regardless of whether it is a stock or custom version.
Google has rolled out two levels of security patches dated for 1 January and 5 January, wherein the first patch includes a single critical bug fix while the latter also includes fixes for Qualcomm and Nvidia issues apart from the basic patches released in 1 January update.
