Nokia has eventually made a comeback into the smartphone business with the official announcement of its upcoming Android-powered phones via a promotional video that was recently leaked online. The highly-rumoured Nokia 6 (aka Nokia D1) is now touted to be the first Android smartphone from the troubled handset maker, with its official release date set for early 2017.
HMD Global has now acquired the exclusive brand license for Nokia smartphones and tablets, after the brief brand-acquisition stint of Microsoft back in 2013.
Nokia's new brand owner has recently confirmed the full specifications of the handset on its website suggesting that the handset will include the 5.5in full HD Gorilla glass screen, a Snapdragon 430 CPU, 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage, with Android Nougat preinstalled.
The upcoming Nokia 6 is also touted to sport a 16MP phase detection auto-focus camera on its back and an 8MP front camera.
The confirmed official specifications of the handset are in line with its rumoured features that surfaced earlier via leaked promotional video and some screenshots (above) shared by a Twitter user, baidunokibar.
Apart from the officially confirmed features, the Nokia 6 is speculated to include an integrated fingerprint sensor and a hybrid Home button which resembles a mixed-design concept of Moto G4's square-shaped Home key and the rectangular Home button of the Note 7.
As far as the phone's availability is concerned, it is being touted as China-exclusive, especially given its tailor-made microUSB port.
With Nokia all geared up to begin its second innings with the debut of an Android smartphone, we could only hope that it has learned its lessons from the previous debacle with lacklustre sales of Windows phones.
