Steven Moffat, the co-writer of popular TV show "Sherlock" recently hinted that the detective series will not be wrapping up after the Sherlock Season 4 finale. Moffat informed that he did not sit down with Mark Gatiss to talk about the supposed fifth season of the series but both of them want to keep the show going.

In an interview with GQ Magazine, actor Benedict Cumberbatch, who plays Sherlock in the series, said that the Season 4 will be "the end of an era" and for the time being, this will be the last outing.

The actor also told the publication: "We won't be doing one immediately after this one airs. You'll see when you watch the new series, that there's a good reason why I said that." He, however, hinted that there can be another season in the future.

Moffat also said that he and Gatiss would not be handing over "Sherlock" to new showrunners, like what happened with "Doctor Who," Digital Spy reported. Moffat also explained in an interview why it was necessary to kill Amanda Abbington's character Mary in the first episode of Season 4, and not in the last episode. He also revealed that there was a huge debate whether to kill Mary in the first or in the third episode.

In the interview with Entertainment Weekly, the co-writer further said that the fans should not give themselves "those two years" to forget how mad Holmes and Watson are at each other. He said, "Let's do it in a circumstance where we have to come back in a week and make this show work again."
