Overview

Virat Kohli will take over as limited overs captain from MS Dhoni and his first full-time test will be in Pune against England, which will also be the first of a three-match One Day International series.

After having a hugely successful stint as captain of India's Test team (14 wins in 22 matches), Kohli will look to repeat his success in the ODI and Twenty20 formats as well. Also, India are heading into the three-match series on the back of a 4-0 Test win against England, who have returned to the Asian nation after the Christmas break.

The Men in Blue are themselves on a good run, having beaten New Zealand 3-2 in a five-match series last year. Kohli will have the cushion of having his go-to-men Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin, who were rested for the series against the Black Caps.

Shikhar Dhawan's return will boost the batting order and he will likely open with fit-again Ajinkya Rahane, who impressed in the tour game on Thursday. Dhoni, who be devoid of pressure due to captaincy, is expected to bat higher up the order. All eyes on Sunday will also be on Yuvraj Singh, who is making an ODI comeback after three years.

On the other hand, England have a formidable ODI line-up and are expected to give a stern challenge to Kohli's men. Eoin Morgan's men are unbeaten in their last three ODI series. They also ended Bangladesh's dream run at home by clinching a 3-2 win late last year.

With the likes of skipper Morgan, Alex Hales, Jason Roy, Jonny Bairstow, Ben Stokes and Jos Buttler in their ranks, England batsmen will have to outshine their Indian counterparts if they are to stand a chance of winning in subcontinent conditions.
