Sarawak Police have launched a probe over a recent derogatory post about a Sarawak minister by a Facebook account, Sarawak Update, and requested the administrator of the account to come forward and assist them.
According to Bernama, State Criminal Investigation Department chief Datuk Dev Kumar said that the police was alerted about the post on 14 January when an individual lodged a report at Mukah Police Station at 5.40pm.
"Sarawak Police have commenced investigations on this posting by Sarawak Update under the Penal Code and Communications and Multimedia Act," said Dev, according to the news website.
"It is unclear at the moment who among the Sarawak Update administrators uploaded that status but from the comments by followers of the page, it is clear that the posting has drawn the ire of many," he added.
The officer also urged the person who made the post with racial slur to own up and come forward.
Also on 14 January, police arrested a 17-year-old student for allegedly posting an insulting comment about late Sarawak Chief Minister Tan Sri Adenan Satem on Facebook. "Her case is being investigated by Bintulu CID under section 500 of the Penal Code and section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act," said Dev, as reported.

Till now, five people have been arrested by Sarawak police for posting defamatory comments regarding the passing of the Chief Minister.
