The Sarawak government has decided to build a 46-acre park in capital city Kuching as a mark of tribute to the late chief minister, Tan Sri Adenan Satem.
According to the Borneo Post, Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) chairman Lo Khere Chiang said the proposal for the park was brought to Adenan prior to last year's state election. A letter from the Land and Survey Department was also passed on to the MPP granting the permission to build the park. "I am now even more determined to protect this piece of land and to develop it into a park, just like what he would have envisaged," said Lo.
Chief Minister Adenan died of heart attack on 11 January at the Sarawak Heart Centre in Kota Samarahan. The 72-year-old leader was laid to rest at Samariang Muslim Cemetery in Kuching.

In 2014, Adenan, who became immensely popular among Sarawakians for his efforts to reclaim state rights, led the state Barisan Nasional (BN) to a landslide victory and won 72 out of 82 seats.
However, not all Malaysians were left grief-stricken following his demise. On 14 January, police arrested a 17-year-old student for allegedly posting an insulting comment about the late chief minister on Facebook. Also on the very next day, Sarawak Police summoned the administrator of a Facebook account to facilitate investigation over a derogatory comment with racial slur posted in that group.
