Hull City have confirmed their midfielder Ryan Mason is in stable condition following a skull fracture in his side's defeat to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on 22 January.
The incident took place in the first half when the former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder and the Blues defender Gary Cahill clashed their heads, leaving the 25-year-old on the ground with a fractured skull.
After receiving treatment for nine minutes on the pitch, Mason was rushed to St Mary's Hospital where he underwent an emergency surgery. Hull confirmed the fracture and also revealed the player is in stable condition after undergoing a surgery.
Mason will be out of action for the next few fixtures as the England international is on the road to recovery from his latest injury setback. The Tigers also confirmed more update on the player's condition will be revealed on Monday.
A statement on Hull City's official website read, "The Club can confirm that Ryan Mason sustained a skull fracture in our fixture at Chelsea this afternoon. He was taken to St Mary's Hospital where he has undergone surgery. Ryan is in a stable condition and is expected to remain in hospital for the next few days."
"Everyone at the Club would like to express their sincere thanks for the excellent and swift care given to Ryan by both the Accident and Emergency department and Neurosurgery Unit at St Mary's Hospital. A further update will be issued tomorrow."
Hull host Jose Mourinho's Manchester United in the second leg of the EFL Cup quarter-final clash in the next fixture. The first leg at Old Trafford saw Marco Silva's side suffer a 2-0 defeat and will have a tough task on their hands for the upcoming tie.
