Overview
Busanan Ongbamrungphan is among the four home finalists in the ongoing Thailand Masters Grand Prix Gold tournament. The last year's semi-finalist has bettered her record this time by surviving 79-minute thriller against third seed Chen Yufei in her semi-final on Saturday.
The top seed conceded the first game 18-21 and was stretched to the limits in the second as well by the reigning world junior champion. However, Busanan held her nerves and clinched the last two games 22-20 and 21-17 to book her place in the title match, which will be held today after the completion of Women's doubles match between top-seeded Chinese pairing of Jia Yifan/Chen Qingchen and Thailand shuttlers Puttita Supajiraku/Sapsiree Taerattana.

Busanan also defeated sixth-seeded Malaysian shuttler Soniia Cheah in straight games in the quarter-final but was tested in the second round by unseeded Gao Fangjie of China as she came back from behind after losing the first game.
With the backing of the home crowd on Sunday, Busanan has a solid chance to clinch another Grand Prix Gold title. However, she will face a stiff test against her familiar foe Aya Ohori of Japan. Notably, the world number 20 defeated the Thailand shuttler in the finals of Thailand Open last year and holds a 3-2 head-to-head advantage over her higher-ranked opponent.
Ohori has dealt with the pressure of playing on the road and she used her experience masterfully against crowd favourite, second seed Nitchaon Jindapol in the semi-final yesterday. The fourth seed took 48 minutes to dispose off her opponent in straight games - 21-16, 21-17 to ensure a repeat of last year's Thailand Open final.
While the in-form Ohori will be eyeing another Thai victim later today, Busanan will be gunning for revenge in what promises to be an exciting title match.
