Since Angelina Jolie ended her marriage with Brad Pitt, the actress had been silent and avoiding public eye for quite some time. Last Saturday, the Hollywood actress made her first public appearance since her divorce. The Lara Croft star was seen attend the screening of her new film "First They Killed My Father" along with her children in Cambodia.
During the free screening of the movie, Jolie along with her six children - Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh and the twins Knox and Vivienne were all smiles and made an appearance at the Royal Residence in Siem Reap to meet the Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni, according to E! News reports.
"I cannot find words to express what it means to me that I was entrusted with telling part of the story of this country. This film was not made to focus on the horrors of the past, but to celebrate the resilience, kindness and talent of the Cambodian people," said Jolie during her new film's press conference in Siem Reap, according to reports.
The actress also mentioned how deeply connected she is with the movie and the Southeast Asian country. She said that Cambodia will always be important to her because for her adopted son, Maddox , who belongs from the country. "Most of all, this film is my way of saying thank you to Cambodia. Without Cambodia I may never have become a mother. Part of my heart is and will always be in this country," PEOPLE cited.
The free screening of the movie was held at the Terrace of the Elephant in the Angkor Wat temple compound, which is 100 miles away from the orphanage from where the actress adopted Maddox, in 2002, E! News mentioned.
The movie is based on the life of activist Loung Ung. Jolie is the director, co-writer and co-producer of the film which will be released on Netflix later this year.
