Moonlight won Best Picture award at the 2017 Academy Awards after La La Land was incorrectly announced as the winner. Award presenters Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway announced Ryan Gosling's film by mistake, and it was only realised after the movie's cast had taken to the stage.
La La Land's producer Jordan Horowitz suddenly realised that his film hadn't won. He said: "Guys, I'm sorry, no, there's a mistake. Moonlight, you guys won best picture. I'm going to be really proud to hand this to my friends from Moonlight."
Beatty explained: "I want to tell you what happened. I opened the envelope, and it said Emma Stone, La La Land. That's why I took such a long look at Faye and at you; I wasn't trying to be funny."
Jimmy Kimmel joked that he knew he would mess up the hosting. He added: "Personally I blame Steve Harvey for this."
In 2015, Miss Universe event saw a high volatge drama when Harvey made a major slip at the ceremony held at Planet Hollywood Resort in Las Vegas. The comedian announced Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutierrez as the winner of the pageant.
Gutierrez was wearing the crown when Harvey returned to apologise, as the real winner was Pia Wurtzbach. Following that, Miss Universe 2014 Paulina Vega took the crown from Gutierrez and placed it on Wurtzbach's head instead.
Meanwhile, Moonlight director Barry Jenkins was shocked over the win. He said: "Even in my dreams this could not be true, but to hell with dreams, I'm done with it because this is true. Oh my goodness."
The movie also won best adapted screenplay and best supporting actor for Mahershala Ali. On the other hand, La La Land won a total of six awards.
