Klang River, which flows through Kuala Lumpur and Selangor and eventually ends into the Straits of Malacca, has broken its banks and flooded several areas after a storm on Sunday. According to reports, flood waters rose to 2m in areas surrounding Masjid Jamek and Jalan Tun Perak.
City Fire and Rescue Department operations chief Samsol Maarif Saibani said that Hang Tuah Fire and Rescue Department personnel were dispatched to Wisma Teck Lee at 6.05pm, reported Malay Mail. After the water rose to about 2m, a suction pump was used to facilitate drainage.
According to the report, the chief also said that 15 vehicles got stranded in about 1m of water in an underground car park at Bank Muamalat in Jalan Melaka and a suction pump was used to remove the water.
Other places, like Lebuh Ampang and Masjid Jamek, started the cleanup operations as soon as the floods receded at about 7pm. Workers faced challenges to clean up the thick layer of mud, silt and rubbish, that was left behind by the flood.
However, in places like Taman Sri Rampai and Setapak, the floods continued to surge and wreak havoc, reported the news website. Low-lying areas, road and residential gates were completely submerged. Moreover, a landslip occurred at the back of residential homes in Bukit Antarabangsa.
Muhamad Hissam Sidik, who is the operations officer of Selangor Fire and Rescue Department, said the seven personnel were dispatched to Riverdale Park after they were alerted at around 4 am.
Fortunately, there has not been any report of structural damage or casualties so far.
