One of the Korea's most popular dramas, "Descendants of The Sun", starring Song Joong Ki and Song Hye Kyo, is to be remade by the Taiwanese government as they want their own version of the drama. According to Koreaboo, several Taiwanese news outlets reported that the said drama is confirmed to be remade, at the request of their government.
The Korean drama is mostly set in Uruk where Song Joong-ki, the special force's captain, juggles duties with his love life with the army surgeon played by Song Hye-kyo as he often has to leave her at the crucial moments in order to save lives or go on some sudden missions.
According to the reports, the Taiwanese government wants the drama to be remade because they feel that the drama will inspire their people, their military and lift up their morale as it did in Korea after it was aired.
The filming of the drama will reportedly start in the middle of April and it is to be released with the title, "The Best Choice". However, the cast for the drama is not yet known, but the budget of the drama, as reported, seems to be relatively low as it is set around $419,300 USD (NT$12.8 million dollars).
Though the casting details are not revealed, it is mentioned that the drama will be directed by the award-winning director Liang Hsiu-shen, who has hinted that the male lead will be played by someone "who is in top physical shape, as he is to play the role of a Special Forces soldier". He also revealed that some of the cast members are currently serving in the military right now!
Korean television dramas have always been popular all across Asia but the military romance in Descendants of the Sun has hit the peak of the K-drama fever as not only Taiwan, China is all set to make a remake of the said drama. Though, China will make a film adaptation of it.
