The cable television channel OCN has made a name for itself in the recent years by producing some amazing and well-polished original crime procedurals, including the "Squad 38" last year and the critically acclaimed series "Voice," this year.
Going with the tradition, the network started a new crime show, "Tunnel" which is based on time travel, solving a serial murder case that continues for over three decades.
According to Soompi, this new OCN weekend drama got a good start. On March 26, the first episode of the drama aired and the results from Nielsen Korea revealed that it recorded a national average of 2.8 percent ratings. It is the highest rating for the first episode of any OCN drama.
The first episode of Tunnel mainly focused on the story of detective Park Kwang Ho played by Choi Jin Hyuk. Jin Hyuk was in charge of a serial murder case but he gets hit with a stone and loses consciousness inside a tunnel.
The viewers had mixed reaction, as the idea of time-travel has been previously used in the dramas and is not very original but many liked the show and would like to continue to watch it.
Previously, Yonhap reported, Director Shin Yong-hwi said at a media event, "The story deals with a serial murder case, but we tried to infuse a sense of humanism in the story as opposed to the grotesque side of a crime show."
The story of the drama revolves around the lead actor Choi Jin-hyuk who plays the role of a homicide detective Park Kwang-ho in 1986. He travels 30 years into the future through a mysterious tunnel and he teams up with psychologist Shin Jae-ee and Detective Kim Sun-jae played by Lee Yoo-young, and Yoon Hyun-min, respectively.
