12th seed Nick Kyrgios takes on 16th seed Alexander Zverev in the Men's singles quarter-final of Miami Open 2017 at Crandon Park, Florida in Thursday.
The German teenager, who is the third youngest player after Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray's stint in 2007 to reach the Miami quarter-final, stunned top seed Stanislas Wawinka 4-6, 6-2, 6-1 in his fourth-round clash while Kyrgios defeated higher-ranked David Goffin in straight sets (7-6, 6-3).
Kyrgios heads into the match as favourite to reach the semi-final after coming up some consistent performances this season, which includes a comfortable straight set win over Alexander earlier this month in California.
After bowing out of Australian Open as early as in the second round, the 21-year-old has been reaching final stages of all the tournaments he has featured in. The world number 16 has got the better of world number two Novak Djokovic twice this season (Acapulco and Indian Wells) apart from wins against other top-ranked players.
However, Kyrgios has not been able to go the distance and claim a title so far in 2017 but the in-form Australian will be hoping to end his title drought in the ongoing tournament. If he manages to win today's clash, a possible meeting with Roger Federer, who ousted him from Indian Wells, awaits him.
Alexander, on the other hand, impressed with his valiant show in his five-set defeat to Rafael Nadal at the Australian Open and his title-winning run at Montpellier, but early exits at Rotterdam, Marseille and Indian Wells is a cause of concern ahead of tonight's big clash.
