The Game of Thrones Season 7 is more than four months away from its scheduled release on HBO while a fresh teaser trailer throws some light on what to expect from the next instalment of the popular fantasy-drama television series. The seventh season will be premiering on 16 July comprising of just seven episodes unlike in the past seasons which had 10 episodes.
The new teaser trailer spanning over a minute and a half offers very little insight into the likely twist in the plot and storyline. The three main characters of the show namely Jon Snow, Daenerys Targaryen and Cersei Lannister are shown walking towards their respective thrones in this 92 second trailer.
Widely touted as 'Long Walk' promo, it showcases the three major contenders for the throne in Westeros: Cersei Lannister from King's Landing, Jon Snow from Winterfell and Daenerys Targaryen from Dragonstone.
Although the primary goal of all three characters remains the Iron Throne, Jon Snow will have the additional responsibility of rallying the North in his quest to establish peace in the face of impending disaster that waits north of The Walls, as The White Walker's army looks more intimidating than ever as the cracks in the wall widen over time.
"Now that winter has arrived on Game Of Thrones, executive producers David Benioff and D.B. Weiss felt that the storylines of the next season would be better served by starting production a little later than usual, when the weather is changing," Casey Bloys, president of HBO programming, said in a statement. "Instead of the show's traditional spring debut, we're moving the debut to summer to accommodate the shooting schedule."
There is also an unexpected fourth character who debuts in a cameo role towards the end of the trailer. The three remaining from the main character list will be tested for their steely resolve as the seventh season will have a unique plot twist that's not based on any of the original George RR Martin books with the next one still in the pipeline.
