Disney's Frozen was originally a completely different movie. Recently, producer Peter Del Vecho revealed some of the details that were supposed to be originally a part of the 2013 mega hit. He told Entertainment Weekly that in the original story Anna and Elsa were not sisters. In fact, they weren't even from a royal family. Anna was not a princess and Elsa was a self-proclaimed Snow Queen and most importantly was a pure evil villain. Vecho also revealed that the climax of the movie had a battle scene with the snow monsters that Elsa created as a form of her army.
Elsa had a tragic back story which made her the way she was. On her wedding day, she was jilted at the altar. So, she froze her own heart so that she can never love again. A prophecy suggested that "a ruler with a frozen heart will bring destruction" to Arendelle. Naturally, the audience thought it was the snow queen the prophecy is warning about.
But, when actually the battle takes place, Elsa is seen creating an army of snow monsters to attack Anna. However, it is Hans who triggers an avalanche that puts Elsa, Anna and the rest of Arendelle into danger. They realise that the frozen heart prophecy hinted at Hans and not Elsa. Anna figures out that the only way to save the kingdom is to request Elsa and convince her to use her power and save the kingdom.
However, the story of the movie underwent several changes and eventually gave the audience a story they would cherish again and again. The original story didn't touch everyone's hearts and Del Vecho explained saying, "It wasn't satisfying. We had no emotional connection to Elsa — we didn't care about her because she had spent the whole movie being the villain. We weren't drawn in. The characters weren't relatable."
Del Vecho also said, "With all the movies we were work on, eventually the film tells you what it needs to be and if you're smart enough to listen to that, it leads you to a different direction than perhaps your preconceived notion."
Their decision to change the original story was certainly worth it, as Frozen not only dominated the box office but also became the 'highest grossing animated movie' of all time. It also received a number of awards including two Oscars -Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song for Let It Go.
