Apple analyst Brain White has confirmed the pre-order and shipping dates for all three iPhone 8 models in his recent research note with investment banking firm Drexel Hamilton. According to his analysis, all three variants of iPhone 8 will be up for pre-orders in September, although the larger 5.8in OLED model will be delayed by several weeks in its launch timeframe.
Here are the excerpts from White's recent research note:
"Our contact strongly believes the 5.8-inch iPhone 8 will be delayed by several weeks due to challenges around the 3D sensing technology, but still in time for the December holidays. This is not the first time that we've heard about a potential delay with a new iPhone; however, our contact was so emphatic about the delay that we are taking this data point more seriously. Since it is only April, this situation could improve. Essentially, our contact believes customers will be able to pre-order the new 5.8-inch iPhone 8 along with the new 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch iPhones in September; however, the 5.8-inch iPhone 8 will not be available for delivery until several weeks later."
The analyst's sources have attributed the premium iPhone 8's shipment delays to the complex 3D sensing technology being integrated into it as a substitute for a physical Home button. In other words, a revolutionary 3D camera will be fitted on the front panel to enable biometric authentication.
Apple seems to be extra careful in taking more time to release its premium iPhone 8 variant as all the three next-gen iPhone models will be up for pre-order as well as announced at the same time in September.
