Fans queued up overnight to buy tickets for the much-awaited concert of British artist Ed Sheeran, who will be making a pitstop in Singapore on Nov 11. The star's Singapore concert will be a part of his world tour's Asian leg to support his latest album, ÷ (divide) released in March.
A spokesman from concert organiser AEG Presents confirmed that the bookings opened on Sports Hub online, Singapore Indoor Stadium box office, and at SingPost outlets at 10 am on Thursday. Looking at overwhelming response, the organiser quickly tricked in a second show at the same venue on Nov 12.
The tickets are priced at S$108. Apart from Singapore, the 'Thinking Out Loud' singer will be also be performing in other Asian cities like Dubai and Kuala Lumpur.
÷ (divide) is Sheeran's third album that debuted at number one in the UK, the US and other major markets with the first two singles—'Shape of You' and 'Castle on the Hill'—breaking records in a number of countries, including the UK, Australia and Germany. Sheeran also became the first artist to have two songs in the top ten list at the US charts. He was also named as the most influential people in the UK in Debrett's 2017 list.
The album sold 232,000 physical and digital copies in the UK in its first day of release. And eventually, the numbers reached 672,000 during its first week, making it the nation's fastest-selling album by a male artist and the third highest opening behind Adele's '25' and Oasis' 'Be Here Now.'
Meanwhile, in an interview with Kirsty Young on Desert Island Discs, the 26-year singer revealed that he uses songwriting as therapy for when he feels low. "I think [song writing] is a form of therapy, to be honest. Any time I've ever got down or ever felt low the one thing that picks me up from that is writing a song about it because at least you've got a positive experience out," he was quoted saying.
