The new sci-fi tvN drama "Circle" has aired its first episode and it started off really well. The Monday-Tuesday drama got a favourable response in terms of cable viewership ratings.

The first episode of the drama which aired on May 22 got average ratings of 2.9 percent ratings, even bringing in 3.5 percent ratings at its highest point, according to Nielsen Korea as cited by Soompi.

The target audience of viewers of the tvN drama is in their 20s to 40s. The drama brought in average viewership rating of 5.3 percent among female viewers who are in their 30s.

"Circle" stars Yeo Jin Goo, Gong Seung Yeon, and Kim Kang Woo. The thriller drama is divided into two parts, "Part 1: Beta Project" and "Part 2: An Amazing New World," and it takes place in 2017 and 2037, respectively. The drama takes place in two timelines but the characters do not move to the present to future or vice-versa, rather two similar stories from two different eras are being told in one episode.

Viewers will be able to see Lee Gi Kwang in a different way as he appears in the 2037 storyline where he plays the role of Lee Ho Su who is a government employee and lives in "Smart Earth."

Even director Min Jin Gi too agreed to it by saying, "Lee Ho Su is pretty much a humanoid character devoid of emotion, and he represents the reality of 'Smart Earth.' It is a challenge to play the role of a nonexistent person, but Lee Gi Kwang is doing an excellent job of portraying the character's nuances."

Meanwhile, "Circle" airs its second episode on May 23 at 11 p.m. KST.
