Battery life gets a front seat in the new "faster, more powerful" Microsoft Surface Pro tablet.
At an event in Shanghai, where Microsoft announced the launch of China Government Edition of Windows 10, it also unveiled its Surface line's latest tablet, which promises 50% more battery life than the previous versions.
A single charge for "the new Surface Pro" would last for 13.5 hours, which is huge compared to both the previous versions and other devices like Apple's iPad Pro. The company posted a blog, where it claimed that the new version has 50% and 35% more battery life than Surface Pro 4 and iPad Pro, respectively.
Microsoft also announced other specifications pertaining to the device like its weight, which accounts at 1.7 lbs and thickness that is measured at 8.5 mm giving it the upper hand of being "lighter than the bag that you carry it in."
Priced at $799, the new tablet is claimed to be 2.5 times faster than its older version, Surface Pro 3 and built-in with 7th generation Intel Core processor, which runs under 18dB, the new device would be as 'soundless' as possible with core devices m3 and i5 running without fans.
Efficiency regarding space availability is also looked at as Microsoft has claimed that the device uses 99% of the internal space. A newer version of the keyboard would also accompany with 1.33 mm of key travel, which will be available in various colours too.
Although the LTE Advanced would be available in the future products, research director at Gartner, Ranjit Atwal has said that the first lot of new Surface Pros would only be limited to Wi-Fi connectivity. Reiterating on the fact there will be no such thing as Surface Pro 5, Atwal further said to BBC, "This is not the Pro 5, that's important to recognise. The footprint is very similar, but the change is inside: the new parts, the performance, the battery, the LTE connectivity, the software."
Newer features also include developed visual performance with PixelSense Accelerator which will enable users to switch from SRGB mode to enhanced colour version in seconds. The specifications of the new visual performance rely on the 12.3'' PixelSense display with 267ppi which has an aspect ratio of 3:2.
An improved connectivity also makes the new version compatible with Surface Dial and Surface Dock. An app called Microsoft Whiteboard was also unveiled at the event along with it, which aims at making devices under the flagship of Surface as a more collaborative network of devices. The event also saw the unveiling of a newer Surface Pen which the company claims to be twice as accurate as the previous lot and more efficient in using the latest updates of Windows 10's inking tools.
