The screenwriter of successful dramas like "Goblin," "Descendants of the Sun," "Lovers in Paris," "Secret Garden," and "Heirs," Kim Eun Sook has already decided her next project.
The tentative title of the upcoming drama of Eun Sook is "Mr. Sunshine." Reportedly, the story is set before the Japanese occupation of Korea in the early 1900s.
According to Soompi, the story of the drama is about a Korean man who takes up the identity of that of a soldier in the United States army. It happened in 1871 after embarking on a battleship from Korea during the United States expedition to Korea. After being stationed there the man goes back to Joseon where he falls in love with a woman who is from an aristocratic family.
While talking about the upcoming drama Eun Sook stated, "This is a topic I've been wanting to [write a drama about] for a while now. I created a project proposal for this drama a while back: a drama about not independence fighters but actual soldiers from that era. Although it's not recorded anywhere in history, it's something that we all need to know about."
She further revealed about the difficulties of the drama, she explained that the drama is set before the Japanese occupation of Korea era and it's difficult to get such places as there isn't much representative of the era. So, they'll have build up the set and therefore she needs to end up writing the script as soon as possible.
Though, Eun Sook did not mention much about the cast, she said that she has got someone in mind. She mentioned that the role is to be played by someone really good in acting as the character's narrative is strong and also the character has large breadth of emotions.
The website also mentioned that Eun Sook is teaming up with PD Lee Eung Bok again. Previously, the duo showed great works together like "Goblin" and "Descendants of the Sun."
Currently, "Mr. Sunshine" is slated to air in the first half of 2018.
