Fourth seed Jan O Jorgensen takes on unseeded Indian shuttler Kidambi Srikanth in the Men's singles R16 match of 2017 Indonesia Open on Thursday.
Jorgensen, the world number nine, eased past France's Brice Leverdez in the opening round on Tuesday 21-16, 21-18. On the other hand, Srikanth survived a stiff test from world number 11 Vincent Ki Wong 21-15, 17-21, 21-16 in his first-round match.
The two shuttlers have met four times in the past and have two wins each. Srikanth though won their last meeting, which came at the R16 round of 2016 Rio Olympics, which was also their only clash that ended inside two games.
In what is expected to be another hard-fought battle later today, the Indian shuttler holds a slender edge over the higher-ranked Jorgensen as the Dane is expected to be rusty after missing most part of the season with injury. Notably, the world number nine, before heading to Jakarta, featured only in the All England Championships this year, in which he was ousted as early as in the second round.
On the other hand, Srikanth finished as runner-up at Singapore Open, edging past the likes of All England Championships runner-up Shi Yuqi, Anthony Ginting enroute to the final. The former China Open champion also had a good run at home as he reached the semi-final of Syed Modi Grand Prix Gold.
