On July 5, it was announced that Song Hye-kyo was indeed marrying Song Joong-ki, proving the previous rumours true. Obviously this means Song Joong-ki is not like a brother to her, as she had earlier suggested. Now, the story behind how they actually fell in love has been revealed. Keep the tissues ready!
As noted by website Soompi, a close acquaintance of both Song Hye-kyo and Song Joong-ki said on July 5, "They started having feelings for each other before 'Descendants of the Sun' had aired. The drama was pre-produced so they actually began filming in the second half of 2015."
The acquaintance added: "Then early last year, Song Joong-ki secretly brought over some snacks to the set of Song Hye-kyo's photo shoot. It was even before their drama began airing, so the staff wondered why he came." Website Koreaboo notes that the common friend of the two actors also added that everyone had by then realised that the two top Hallyu stars had begun developing deep feelings for each other.
Website Soompi notes that another alleged acquaintance had revealed that Song Hye-kyo was initially reluctant to date another celebrity after having already dated Lee Byung-hun and Hyun Bin before. However, it was Song Joong-ki's sincerity that pulled her closer to him. The second acquaintance also added that the SongSong couple accompanied each other as often as they could, on their respective international schedules.
As for the secrecy surrounding their relationship, the acquaintance said, "Song Joong Ki and Song Hye Kyo didn't really try to hide their relationship from the people around them. They first told people they trusted, and if someone else asked about it, they neither affirmed nor denied."
As noted by Koreaboo, the friend added: "However, they didn't want the media to reveal their relationship before they could themselves. They believed that it was their duty to tell fans first."
Meanwhile, Dispatch has released exclusive photos from Song Hye-kyo and Song Joong-ki's first date in Tokyo, noted Koreaboo. It was also revealed by a friend of the couple that Song Joong-ki confessed his true feelings for the actress, who is about four years older than him, at this date.
Dispatch had apparently found out early on that the two were in a serious relationship and considering marriage. In one of the photos, Song joong-ki is seen bowing his head and extending his hand towards Song Hye-kyo, which she is seen accepting. This may have been the moment of proposal.
Dispatch said they didn't want release the news of them dating without gathering all the necessary proof that they were thinking of marriage more seriously. "If they were simply dating a few pictures would have sufficed, but marriage is different. A lot of variables could have effected it so we had to be careful," the media outlet was quoted by Koreaboo as saying. It is commendable that Dispatch decided to respect the couple's privacy.
All in all, this a wonderful time for the SongSong couple and fans of the two must be overjoyed at the announcement of marriage. Their wedding date is set for October 31, this year. We wish all the very best to the couple's future journey together.
