Overwatch game director Jeff Kaplan has announced on Tuesday that Overwatch Summer Games 2017 is officially back starting next week. While lots of things from last year's event will be iterated, new stuff is coming out for this year's event.
Kaplan has revealed that items from 2016 will be making a comeback at the Overwatch Summer Games 2017. In a developer update shared via YouTube, the director has noted that all Summer Games items will be unlocked through credits.
Sports-themed skins from 2016 will be up for grabs at a discounted cost of 1,000 credits from its regular cost of 3,000 credits last year. The new skins are expected to be dropped at the full cost of 3,000 credits.
The much-requested American McCree and Nihon Genji skins, among many others, will be returning alongside new skins. Kaplan has given hints of a new skin for Mercy which he called "one of my favourite skins of all time". Junkrat will also be getting "an awesome Legendary skin" that is much attuned to sports. Roadhog, however, is not getting a new one.
Copa Lucioball, the Rocket League-inspired soccer game, brings a competitive campaign. Special sprays will be unlocked across the game, while some balancing changes for the matches and rankings will also be implemented.
Duplicate loot boxes will be extremely reduced for the first time to facilitate a more exciting gameplay experience. Finally, Kaplan has announced that a new stadium in Sydney, Australia will be added on top of the one in Rio de Janeiro from last year.
The Overwatch Summer Games 2017 will run for three weeks starting 8 August on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
