Comcast's Wi-Fi management service, Xfinity xFi, has been updated with a few significant features. Among other things, the updated Xfinity xFi now has the abilities to set limits for internet use, pause the connection and freeze web search results related to adult-oriented contents.
Here's a breakdown of the new tweaks and improvements for Xfinity xFi:
Timed Paused
This new feature allows parents to lay internet breaks on a timer. Internet freeze can go as long as desired and can be manually brought back to normal. Timed Paused is designed to encourage internet users, most especially the kids, to do something other than staring at the screens the entire weekends.
Safer Searches
Safer Searches acts like a filter on web browsers through protective search settings either on Google, Bing and YouTube. Although there are existing third-party apps that allow family heads to block certain sites, most of them are difficult to navigate due to its technicalities, while some charge users for a subscription.
Xfinity xFi is guaranteed to sift through all contents, especially on YouTube, and deliver only those that are deemed appropriate for kids. However, this feature is not available across all devices as it is still in beta.
Real-time notifications
While toast notifications are sometimes annoying, this can be of great help when it comes to controlling internet use and device activities. Once detecting a potential security incident, such as changes in the Wi-Fi password and network name, administrators will be automatically notified.
In the meantime, internet and mobile devices today have become a crucial part of everyone's life. It has become a necessity for most.
