A 5-year-old boy was critically injured on Friday due to a dramatic chase between his parents in Malaysia. The police said that the woman was forced up a curb before her vehicle crashed into a big tree causing the injury to her son.
A police statement said that the witnesses had seen the man trying to force his wife's car to the side of the road in Kampung Titi Besar, near Kepala Batas. "The wife, however, did not slow down even when her car was forced up the curb and it slammed into a large tree," the statement added.
"The man lost control of his vehicle too and hit the car belonging to a Royal Malaysian Air Force man, causing it to overturn." It further said: "The man then crashed into the fencing of the Malaysian Meteorological Department staff quarters."
A source revealed that on Wednesday afternoon, the man had driven his car and given chase after his wife's vehicle following their squabble.
According to the reports, the accident happened across a 500 m stretch of the road. All the four injured people were taken to the hospital.
Preliminary medical reports showed that the child, who was unconscious, suffered three broken ribs that has also ruptured his lungs. Dr Norhizan Ismail, the state Health director, said that the boy is being treated at the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit of the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital for serious head injuries. "He is also injured in the face, legs and hands," he told Asia One.
Dr Norhizan added that the 37-year-old mother has also sustained head injuries and broke her right hand. The woman, who is an assistant director with the Kedah State Economic Development Corporation, is in unstable condition.
The 38-year-old husband, a former director of the Malaysian Investment Development Authority, was slightly injured in the accident but he was still warded for observation.
Meanwhile, the 38-year-old air force member has regained consciousness and is in stable condition.
