Luke Shaw could make his Manchester United comeback against Burton Albion in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday (20 September) after he was left out of the Red Devils' Under-23 squad for their game against the Chelsea reserves on Monday night.
Jose Mourinho's side take on the Championship club at Old Trafford in the third round of the cup on 20 September. And Shaw, yet to play for United this season, is in line for a recall after missing the under-23 match against the Blues.

Ashley Young started at left-back against Everton on Sunday with Mourinho also picking Daley Bling and Matteo Darmian there at times this term. But Shaw's return could give him another option despite struggling to ever really gain the manager's trust last year.
"Luke Shaw is not injured anymore so it is a question of form," Mourinho said last week. It's a question of option but he is not injured, he's recovered from his injury."
Shaw missed the end of last season with another injury after aggravating his back in April against Swansea. It was another setback for the 22-year-old who broke his leg the season before under Louis van Gaal against PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League.
The England international has featured three times for the U23s this term as he bids to recover from the injury that forced him off against Swansea at the tail end of last season, and left him attending the Europa League final in Stockholm on crutches.
But Shaw was not involved in the Premier League 2 fixture against Chelsea on Monday night, suggesting he will be in Jose Mourinho's squad to face Burton at Old Trafford, according to reports from Manchester Evening News.
While the Frenchman is out, protecting midfielders Nemanja Matic and Marouane Fellaini is vital for Mourinho, and the door could therefore open for McTominay.
Scott McTominay, who was at Old Trafford for the visit of Everton on Sunday, was also absent from Ricky Sbragia's squad - hinting he is wanted by Mourinho for the next first team fixture, according to the Express.
The 20-year-old McTominay is a beneficiary of Andreas Pereira's loan to Valencia, and has been promoted to the senior squad. Handed the no.39 shirt officially this season, he could also be handed minutes in the absence of the injured Paul Pogba.
