Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, who attended the Mid-Autumn festival celebration at Gardens by the Bay on Wednesday evening, shared pictures of his visit on Friday on social media stating that he has been happy to attend a jalanjalan to enjoy the beautiful lantern display.

Signifying the end of the autumn harvest, the Mid-Autumn festival, also known as Lantern Festival in Singapore, is set to take place on October 4. The Chinese origin thanksgiving festival is celebrated with friends and family in lantern lit gardens with delicious mooncakes.

With just four days remaining for the main event, celebrations have already begun with spectacular displays in various parts of Singapore. Marking the beginning of this year's event, Prime Minister Lee celebrated an Early Mid-Autumn festival with Yio Chu Kang residents earlier this month.

Mid-Autumn Festival at Gardens by the Bay is one of the most-awaited events in Singapore. The 101 hectare nature park attracts visitors with its flamboyant lantern displays alongside several joyful festive celebrations in a lush garden setting.

This year, the Gardens celebrate autumn abundance with lantern sets symbolizing bountiful harvests and good fortune. Some of the highlights include:

  • A food street featuring a spread of Asian delights
  • Fun Zone in which craft booths offer activities like umbrella painting, lantern decorating and Chinese knotting among others.
  • A traditional arts showcase called Blossoming Harvest.
  • Garden Rhapsody featuring tales of the moon.
  • Illuminations of joy with over 1,000 light installations created by Singapore's social service beneficiaries.
  • Lantern riddles to discover Chinese language and culture.

The 17-day event is scheduled to take place from Sept. 22 to Oct. 8 from 6.00 pm to 11.00 pm.
