Human consciousness and cognition are expected to take a giant leap in the future, as scientists are on the edge of developing edible gelatin nanobots which capable to positively manipulate the physical and psychological conditions of a person.

Nanobots join the fight against cancer

Nanobots are very tiny, and more than 50,000 of them can be fit across the diameter of a single human hair. The survival rate among cancer victims is expected to increase more when these microscopial medical weapons get infused in their bloodstream.

According to the latest study conducted by researchers at the Durham University, it has been learned that nanobots drilled onto cancer affected area have killed off the cancerous cells in just 60 seconds. The experiment is now being conducted on micro-organisms, and later on rodents. After successful completion of experiments on micro-organisms on micro-organisms and rodents, clinical trials will be performed on human beings, thus paving the way to save the life of millions affected by cancer.

Apart from destructing cancer cells, nanobots can also be used for repairing damaged tissues at the molecular level. By successfully patrolling the circulatory system in the human body, nanobots help to detect several toxins in the bloodstream which may finally result in organ failure. Nanobots also allow taking biometric measurements which will help to monitor the overall general health of an individual.

Earlier, Microsoft announced that they are building a computer made from DNA, capable of living inside the cells, thereby detecting faults in the body including cancer. In this process, Microsoft has joined hands with some of the world's best biologists, programmers and engineers.

Increase the cognitive abilities

Recently, John McNamara of the IBM Hursley Innovation Centre stated that the impact of artificial intelligence and the usage of nanobots will bring about huge changes in the physical and cognitive abilities of human beings. According to McNamara, the AI nano-machine injected into the bloodstream will help to repair the damaged cells, bones and muscles, and sometimes, it will even help to augment them.

The perfect blending of human intelligence and the strength of machines will enhance human cognitive capability directly, thus making us utilise immense quantities of computing power to augment our own thought process.

"Using this technology, embedded in ourselves and in our surroundings, we will begin to be able to control our environment with thought and gestures alone," said McNamara, reports The Telegraph.

Even in the midst of these positive thoughts, McNamara believes that the widespread introduction of nanobots will bring about unemployment, especially in the retail and service sectors.
