'The battle of greatness' aka 2017 WTA Finals presented by SC Global has started and the tennis world has already witnessed two big battles.
While in the first match Czech ace Karolina Pliskova defeated American Venus Williams by 6-2, 6-2, the Spaniard Garbine Muguruza sealed the second match by 6-3, 6-4 against Latvia's Jelena Ostapenko.
In the first set after receiving first break point in the first set Pliskova showed her dominance in the first set. Although Venus tried to set her pace in the second set but the world No. 3 made sure that she will defeat the 37-year-old player.
In the second match of day one, the youngest among all qualified tennis stars Ostapenko tried to show her skills and took the first break point of the match in the opening set. But unfortunately, that could not save her. The 2017 Wimbledon winner triumphed in the opening round-robin match.
Now the tennis fans are eagerly waiting for the day two, where four individuals will be playing against each other. The first match will be between the Romanian Simona Halep and French ace Caroline Garcia. It will be their third face-off of this season.
2017 China Open was the last and the most recent battle between these two women tennis players. Both the players have played the final of the tournament, where Garcia disappointed current world No. 1 Halep after winning the match by 6-4 7-6(3).
Later another match has been scheduled for day two at the centre court in Singapore. It will be featured former world No. 1 Caroline Wozniacki and Ukrainian Elina Svitolina. They are going to face each other for the third time after 2017 Canadian Master.
However, the world No. 6 Wozniacki does not have an excellent head to head record against current WTA rank four Svitolina. Earlier in the current year, the 23-year-old had defeated the 2017 Tokyo tournament champion Wozniacki in Dubai and Canadian Masters. But tennis fans from all over the world will be waiting to see both the matches from day two.
