Vijay's movie " Mersal " is ruling overseas with a wide range of collection at the box office and is one of Vijay's highest grossing movies of his career in Kollywood and is expected to collect Rs.200 crore worldwide.
Directed by Atlee Kumar the movie opened with a bang by gathering Rs.43.05 crores on the first day of its release and went on to make Rs.155 crore in six days. In spite of the movie being stuck in a broil for all controversial issues regarding the dialogues, it still is continuing to dominate the box office with cash ringing even on weekdays.
Famously known as "Ilayathalapathy" to his fans across the world, Vijay has managed to beat another Kollywood Superstar 's movie "Vishwaroopam" in the US by earning over $120,000 and closer to $1.1 million, becoming one of the highest non-Rajani Tamil films to gross in the US with a five-day opening frame.
Mersal easily ruled the box office in India by collecting Rs.115 crore and best ever collection for the 43-year-old actor positioned him at the first place with grossing $1milliion at the box office.
Although it collected Rs.8.3 crore in North America, it couldn't beat Rajnikanth's movies. Enthiran and Kabali opened with $2.2 million and $1.98 million. The movie collection of Vijay has set a new record in Norway in Tamil–language category with $38,473 finishing at an overall 11th place.
The new film picked up good numbers at the box office in Canada by $200,00, thus surpassing giant international movies like Warner Bros' Geostrom, Bollywood movies like Golmaal Again and Secret Superstar by a huge margin.
The movie garnered A$407K just behind Baahubali 2 and Kaabali in Australia. While coming to Tamil speaking areas in South East Asia like Malaysia, the movie debuted well with an MYR 3.10 and in Singapore around Rs.3.4 crore worth.
According to Andhra Box Office, the worldwide theatrical rights of Mersal were sold out for Rs 113.5 crore. But the movie might get a break from the Kollywood king's movie Enthiran 2.0 which is going to be released in January.
