Korean hip-hop trio Epik High came back to the music scene with a new album after three years.
Epik High, composed of Tablo, Mithra Jin and DJ Tukutz, released the "We've Done Something Wonderful," containing 11 tracks. Upon the album's release, the title tracks "Love Story" and "Home is Far Away" grabbed the No. 1 and 2 spots on seven Korean music charts.
The members take pride that they consider each album to be their last so they give it their best, just like what they did in their latest work.
"I tend to work on projects thinking each time that this may be my final work (in music). You never know what may happen tomorrow," said DJ Tukutz. "In the greater scheme of life, this may be a small moment. But still I wouldn't be able to tolerate it if my final work didn't satisfy my own standard. I've seen comments that say the album does convey that kind of impression. We did our best indeed."
Mithra is happy that the album charted well, saying, "We're grateful for the better-than-expected results."
It was in 2014 when Epik High released their last album titled "Shoebox" and for the latest, they featured singers IU and Oh Hyuk.
"The back and forth process or potential collaboration is joyful. Oh Hyuk is a person that's very hard to contact. He's known to respond to text messages after a week. But we got a reply right away and recorded that day. We were truly grateful," said Tukutz.
But the album also courted controversy when the song "No Thank You," which features WINNER member Song Mino, was accused of being misogynistic or against women.
Tablo denied the accusation, explaining that "honestly we had no such intention. The message of 'No Thank You' is about judging others by subjective standards. It's about the social conditions where people engage in the reckless judgment of others."
Epik High's comeback concert will be held on November 3.
