World No. 1 Rafael Nadal announced his withdrawal from 2017 Rolex Paris Masters quarter-final match due to a knee injury on 3 November, Friday.
Nadal had a string of injuries throughout his career and it includes his withdrawal from 2016 French Open due to a wrist injury.
At the end of 2017, the top seed ace is supposed to play against the Serbian Filip Krajinović in a quarter-final match. But the Spaniard was sidelined because of a right-knee problem before the face-off.
"I have to pull out," Nadal told ATP World Tour.
"Of course, it's a very hard decision for me, especially — pulling out from any event is tough, but especially from here, from Paris. As I said a lot of times, it's the most important city in my career, without a doubt," he further added.
The 31-year-old Nadal defeated South Korean Hyeon Chung 7-5, 6-4 on 1 November, Wednesday to secure the top position in the ATP ranking and became the first player to qualify for Nitto ATP Finals, London.
The year-end ATP Finals is going to start from November 12 to 19 at The O2 Arena in London, which is supposed to be his priority but Nadal said that he is not concerned about London tournament at this moment.
"I am sad enough to pull out from here. It's a tournament that I have a lot of people that I know very well around the organisation, all the same people that organise Roland Garros. I feel like home here and for the relationship that I have with the French Federation, with everybody, it's a very tough day for me. So it's not the right day to talk about London," Nadal said.
"Only thing I'm going to say, I'm going to do my treatment, do my best to be playing in London, but I cannot talk about that now because it's a day that is tough enough for me to pull out from here," he concluded.
However, after his retirement from the quarter-final match, the 25-year-old Krajinović will be facing American ace John Isner in the semi-final match of the Paris Masters on 4 November, Saturday.
