Amid speculation over the relationship between the Pakistani actress Mahira Khan and Bollywood actor Ranbir Kapoor earlier this year when their pictures of smoking together in New York went viral, the actress has come out openly about the incident.
People criticized her for wearing a short dress and smoking in public, with netizens trolling her for red patch on her back claiming it as a love bite or surgery scar but later on speculation died surrounding those rumors as a source close to the actress revealed that it was a surgery scar.
The rumors surrounding the leaked pictures made the actress to completely shy away from social media for some time, but she finally broke her silence on this controversy stating that the incident was related to her personal life and it is very normal for a girl and a boy to hang out.
Many actors and actresses from the Bollywood Industry came out in support of her, including Ranbir Kapoor who was captured in the picture. He asked them to stop spreading negativity and move on with their beautiful lives instead of showing inequality to the actress because she is a woman and that "both smoking and hate is injurious to health."
The Pakistani actress told to Something Haute magazine about her dilemma over the pictures which had gone viral. "I'd be lying if I said that I decided right off the bat that I wouldn't respond to this controversy. And I'm a very strong woman but when all of this happened, I was completely shattered and broken. I would think about posting a statement every day. Then I would stop myself because I just wouldn't know what to say," she said and added, "I am Human and I make mistakes."
The 32-year-old actress is currently looking forward to releasing her new Pakistani movie "Verna" whose new rap song Power Di Game, released last month and said she was quick to post the song on Twitter as a response to the trolls.
Mahira also confessed that she has identified the source of negative criticism as a "disappointment from her fans" and also related to an incident where she met an old lady who said that she didn't like her pictures. She said she immediately apologized to her.
Despite all the criticisms, the actress has a huge fan following both in India and Pakistan with fans look up to her as a role model, but the social media will never stop trolling the celebrities.
