The Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) in Singapore arrested four suspected Singaporean drug offenders in an operation on Wednesday. The authorities have also seized about 689g of heroin worth more than S$72,000 during the operation.
CNB officers were deployed in the vicinity of Jalan Besar in the late hours of Wednesday to conduct observation on a group of suspected drug offenders. A 46-year-old male suspect was spotted meeting up with a female along Mayo Street at around 10.50 pm. But, both of them parted shortly after.
Later, the 46-year-old man was arrested in the vicinity of a budget hotel at Jalan Besar, while the 32-year-old woman was arrested at the junction of Sungei Road and Perak Road. The CNB officers also arrested two other suspects from the 46-year-old's hotel room. Both of them were aged 49 and 54.
The officers recovered about 482g of heroin inside the jeans worn by the 46-year-old male, along with cash worth S$6,474. Apart from this, the authorities also found a small amount of heroin on the 49-year-old male and officers recovered a further 200g of heroin and a small amount of 'Ice' from a bag belonging to the 54-year-old male. A small amount of heroin and 'Ice' was recovered from the table in the room.
CNB said that the investigations into the drug activities of all the suspects are still going on. The Misuse of Drugs Act provides for the death penalty if the amount of diamorphine (or pure heroin) trafficked exceeds 15g. Authorities say that 15g of diamorphine is equivalent to 1,250 straws, which is sufficient to feed the addiction of about 180 abusers for a week.
