Korean boy band BTS made their debut performance at the American Music Awards (AMAs) on Sunday in the US.
BTS sang their hit song "DNA" on the awards show that drew top artists including Selena Gomez, Diana Ross and Pink.
The Chainsmokers introduced BTS, saying, "To call these guys international superstars feels like an understatement." Before the show, BTS' RM, Jin, Suga, Jungkook, V, J-Hope and Jimin hit the red carpet.
BTS arrived in Los Angeles days before the show and were met by their fans, called ARMYs, at the airport.
"We never expected so [many] fans in the airport. There were some photos of us and the fans were [excited]. Yes, it was so nice," the idol group told Entertainment Tonight at the AMAs red carpet.
Wearing Saint Laurent suits, the boys looked happy and proud as they were the first K-pop group to be invited to the AMAs.
They told fans not to skip school in order for them to see them at talk shows in the US.
"[That's] so sad! Watch TV, please. Sorry, it's 2017. You can watch on YouTube later. I'm sorry," they added.
BTS said they don't need girlfriends as they have their fans, saying "We've got [our] ARMY. We've got thousands of girlfriends here in this arena. No need to worry."
In an interview with ET days before the show, BTS talked about love and their career.
"For me, true love is really something that comes within myself, and I think that's what really gets transferred to the fans," J-Hope said.
RM explained, "When we don't have a boyfriend or girlfriend, we always say, 'Oh, I'm so lonely. I want a date,' or something like that. But I think the biggest love we're all searching for is the love for one's self."
During their US trip, BTS appeared on the TV shows of James Corden and Jimmy Kimmel and will be guesting on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show."
